Positions We Have Open
Position Overview:
Overhead Door Company of Grand Rapids is seeking a motivated and dependable Garage Door Technician to join our growing team. This position is responsible for the installation, service, and repair of residential and commercial garage doors, operators, fire doors, and dock equipment. Each day offers variety, as technicians travel to multiple job sites performing service calls and new installations. This role requires mechanical aptitude, strong problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused mindset. Technicians serve as direct representatives of our company and are expected to deliver professional, high-quality service at every job site. Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and install residential and commercial garage doors, openers, fire doors, and dock equipment.

Perform spring replacements, section replacements, and component repairs.

Take accurate measurements for replacement parts.

Disassemble and reassemble mechanical components for service and maintenance.

Install door systems, operators, hardware, and related equipment.

Perform basic wiring and ensure proper equipment connectivity.

Lubricate, adjust, and test equipment to ensure safe and proper operation.

Maintain organized service vehicles and ensure tools and materials are properly stocked.

Document work performed and communicate clearly with the office staff.

Collect payments and obtain customer signatures when required.

Maintain a safe work environment and follow all company safety protocols.

Provide professional, courteous service to customers at all times. Work Environment & Physical Requirements.

Frequent travel to job sites throughout the service area.

Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.

May work in dusty, dirty, or industrial environments.

Must be able to lift and move 50–75 pounds regularly.

Ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, reach overhead, and work at heights for extended periods.
Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills.
- General construction or trade experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with the team.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and organized.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and grow within the trade.
